Apple Trivia Challenge
Motion-controlled trivia game exploring the evolution of human-computer interaction

-
Type: Interactive Installation / Motion Tracking / Real-Time Video
-
Environment: Museum Exhibit
-
Role: Interactive Exhibit Design, Creative Direction, System Design, Execution
Concept
Technology has steadily become easier to use.
From command lines to graphical interfaces, from keyboards to touchscreens, each generation of products has reduced the barrier between people and information.
This installation was intentionally placed adjacent to the Apple Vision Pro section of the exhibit because both experiences explore the same idea: the evolution of how humans interact with technology.
The Vision Pro represents Apple’s latest step toward natural, spatial interaction. The trivia game gives visitors a chance to experience that progression for themselves.
Instead of using a controller, mouse, or touchscreen, participants interact through movement alone. Striking a pose, throwing darts, or using "the Force" made playing the game immersive and novel.
The goal was to create an experience that feels immediate, intuitive, and accessible while reinforcing one of Apple’s most important contributions: making technology easier to use.
Experience
Visitors are presented with a series of Apple-themed trivia questions displayed on a large screen.
Possible answers appear as clearly defined zones. To make a selection, participants simply move into the area that corresponds with their chosen answer.
The system tracks their position in real time and instantly registers their response.
Most visitors understand the interaction within seconds. The absence of a controller becomes part of the experience, encouraging people to think about how interfaces have evolved from keyboards and mice to touchscreens, gesture controls, and spatial computing.
Positioned next to the Apple Vision Pro display, the installation helps connect Apple’s latest innovations with the broader story of interaction design told throughout the exhibit.
Execution
The installation combines motion tracking with a simplified user interface designed specifically for public environments.
-
Input: Real-time body tracking with FEMTO LiDAR camera
-
Processing: Position-based answer selection
-
Output: Dynamic trivia game with immediate visual and audio feedback
-
Users: Supports single-player and multi-player participation
The primary challenge was reducing friction. The interaction needed to feel obvious without requiring explanation, while remaining distinct, accurate and responsive in a busy exhibit environment.
DKS Design led the concept, game design, interaction design, user flow, and system behavior, working with development partners to create an experience that was intuitive, reliable, and engaging for visitors of all ages.
